Someone in their HQs woke up one day with the knack of ”wanting to make a difference, to change things for the better” and try to fix what’s not broken.
But we know that what happened is that they woke up with extra debts for buying/having/doing things they can’t afford and a penchant to land a promotion with the attached salary augmentation.
Recently YouTube got this Videos and Live (which are also videos) tabs out the blue. There was nothing wrong with all videos ordered by most recent under a single Videos tab next to home, community, etc… tabs. Well some ****bag also woke up one day wanting to shine and get a promotion by fixing what’s not broken. Meanwhile saving to playlists option reordering is chaotic (and always by most recently used) and hard to juggle after there’s more than 5 playlists.
But heck, half glass full: The more they mess up the time sink black hole that is social media, the better personally.
The average human life is ~73 years or ~27000 days) and by the time it gets to 30 years it has spent ~11000 days. That means that a 30+ yo has on average 16000 days or less left alive, better spend most of that not on social media.

Imagine if a social media existed that was simple like it used to be. I don’t think any company knows their thing and sticks to it.
I get confused in their UI as much as it is already, and now there's yet another feature that isn't photography focused 
If you and your network truly are 'I just want to see my friends photos, with no ads, chronologically', then it wouldn't hurt to try get them on Pixelfed which is basically the Mastodon of Instagram. Very unlikely to ever meaningfully take off for the wider public, but worth a shot.

Remember when IG was it's own company, it was only photos, and no green bubble peasants were allowed?

Why can't they stay on their lane?
I am thinking of deleting my accounts and never create a new one for good... However, these accounts, FB, insta, twitter, are the only way I can connect with people from my past since it's been a long time that I have talked to them personally and their phone numbers that I know from way back most likely have changed and I think since 2010's only very few people make a call or send a message using their number for most are using the social media accounts they have...
Phone numbers are now just unique identifiers and mostly used for online account creation and verification...
Don't fix what is not broken and don't change just for the sake of change... Nearly everyone wants to be a one stop shop...

IG is ruined. The constant barrage of dumb videos of people dancing or painting or whatever. It used to be such a great place for serious art and photography lovers and practitioners. Now my posts go to nowhere and and I rarely see anything from those I follow. *** Zuk.
