I think it may have to do with the people near you actually downloading the new Instagram and taking pictures with this feature enabled? Maybe you'll need to give it sometime?

The Photo Map feature shows location specific to that particular Instagram user. It's not a global map showing photos from all users or your contacts. A future version of Photo Map might, but not right now.

Instagram is okay, but it is a bit overrated. Makes people think they are these awesome photographers just cos they can add these filters.

Photo Map is a horrible idea. A stalkers dream! I will never use this feature.
