I wouldn’t be surprised if they already looked at the possibility of merging FB and Instagram into a new app called Meta. Maybe what used to be called FB could be called Meta World and what used to be called Instagram could be called Meta Lifestyle (or Lifestyles). Maybe messenger would be renamed Meta Connect and also integrated into the new Meta app with all of the old apps shut down. Since he purchased Instagram, Zuckerberg has always been envious that IG was the “cool” member of the family, while his “baby” had become toxic with young users and became more popular with users twenty or thirty years older than him. Even IG has become way less popular with teens and college age users in recent years. This could turn off more people, but turning it into one essential “can’t live without it” super app like WeChat may be what ultimately saves it. I don’t know what they’ll do with WhatApp, but it’s possible that they’ll integrate it into messenger/Meta Connect?
After their hour-long tour of the meta verse with the Quest, I'd be surprised if there's no meta branding on future AR/VR since that's the device that's at the heart of FB moving into their next phase of world domination.

But the Meta branding for the overarching comapny and the FB branding for FB is part of their plans to not get broken up by the Feds. IOW the Meta name was to pretend like the parent and the app are separate. Making multiple tools under the one name would defeat that.

Now, it's possible they'd merge them into Facebook or call a merged product something else, but they're probably going to keep these under their names and just merge features like chat.

I quit instagram years ago. Can anyone fill me in as to why they got rid of it to begin with?

By the sounds of it "Following" will only be the accounts that you follow which differs from Home which includes accounts you don't.

Does that mean that the feed in "Following" will not include any ads/sponsored posts? If so, that is huge!

Great. Now... can they PLEASE add a feature where you can search/organize your own pictures? I've been using IG for ten years now and sometimes I want to look at my earliest posts. That's a lot of scrolling.

Then there's the other side. I'm someone who doesn't check Instagram very often. So if someone made a post on Monday... and I'm here checking Instagram on Wednesday... the only way I'd see that Monday post is to scroll ALL THE WAY BACK to Monday. And I don't have time for that. So that post is lost to me. I'll never see it.

BUT... if the algorithm serves me posts... I might actually see that Monday post on Wednesday or beyond. At least there is a chance I will see it. So in that respect I like the algorithm.

My issue with the algorithm, particularly on Instagram, is that if you follow sports/quasi sports leagues, you always get "preview" posts showing up in your feed 2 days after the event ended. "Who will win?" WELL, DUH, WE KNOW WHO WON NOW!

I know a lot of people use instagram. I know it’s incredibly popular and profitable for Meta, but who actually likes using it?

Honestly, how do you feel after you spent 10min lookin on Instagram?

I’m not saying I don’t look use Instagram ever, but I find myself feeling empty and almost sad after looking at it. It just feels like a fake world with curated nonsense content reflecting a fake utopia you know isn’t true. Almost nothing in the real world has the same look, so Instagram ends up feeling like a lie and waste of time.

I know I'm the exception, but I never spend 10 straight minutes on Instagram.
I also don't follow any celebrities or pop culture people. Just regular friends who have mostly as boring pictures as me. Also funny accounts, like random photos of mannequins.

How hard is it to add an option for Chronological order???
1. Off - For whatever special AI super power algorithm for people who don't mind/want to see new stuff
2. Newest - Newest first
3. Oldest - Oldest first within x days

Then add some ads in between posts to earn money

Move on to do something else better with the manpower, don't waste time

How exactly does one test chronological order?

Is there a group of engineers posting at random moments and, in another room, a group of people gasping excitedly and pressing a button?

Surely, they're testing to see if people spend more time in the app and click on more ads.
