Meta should just create a web app version of Instagram that has the full functionality of the iOS and Android versions. Problem solved. That way, on an iPad you run it under Safari.…and yet we’re still without a native iPad app. SMH.
Now that TikTok (which has a perfectly functional iPad app) is eating their lunch, I wonder how much longer they can hold out on their users. It seems like IG's attitude was that focusing only on the phone would let them remain ahead of the pack. That has now been proven to be a fallacy and they have catch up to do.…and yet we’re still without a native iPad app. SMH.
There was an article recently where some Meta-rep was talking about an iPad IG app and said their research said there was not enough need for one. If their research is as good as their algorithm, that right there says it all.…and yet we’re still without a native iPad app. SMH.
Yes, that is super annoying! I find the same with FB groups. There are some useful groups that I follow, which have infrequent posts, but I want to see notifications of EVERY post as it occurs, but if no one has posted in a while, it gets dropped off my notification feed.Good. Because the algorithm sometimes deprioritizes people you haven’t “interacted” with in some time.
Sometimes out of the blue I’d remember a page I used to see all the time and when I look them up, I see they’ve been active. It’s just IG decided not to show me their activity.
I'm on the same version. I had to go to my Profile, hamburger menu in the upper right hand corner, then select "Favorites" to set them. Now I see the option in my feed to only show those. Can anyone that actually has the new app post their version number? Mine is updated and shows v227.0.0.4.115 and does not have the new functionality.
If you noticed this.. you could remove those accounts or…… continue to scroll (which people did… a lot).Chronological made sense when you just followed a few friends. As the feed grows bigger and you start following famous photographers, celebrities, companies, meme accounts, etc. you would miss posts of your actual friends. I think the algorithm makes sense to show you stuff you wanna see first.
If you are reading sporadically AND following hundreds of accounts, as you say, then that means you are missing—a lot.I agree. This is the thing that all pro-chronological folks seem to either not understand or choose to ignore. If you're the type of person who follows hundreds of accounts and treats the feed like an open firehose that you take sips from, rather than a book read from start to finish, the algo feed is better because it surfaces more of the posts that you want to see. If you're just following a small number of friends and you want the feed to have an "end", then yes, chronological is preferable for that. It all depends on how you use the platform. I'm glad they're bringing back both options.
That worked! Thank you. Who'd have guessed that it's an "easter egg" feature only unlocked by performing some random settings.I'm on the same version. It just took them a bit to highlight it for everyone. I got a little tooltip this morning when I launched it saying something like "Check out the new way to view your Feed!"That worked! Thank you. Who'd have guessed that it's an "easter egg" feature only unlocked by performing some random settings.
