Im in Mexico, where I live there´s a technology plaza, where you can find anything for computers, phones, games, etc. I have bought everything for my computers there, I mean, memory, hard drives, toner, etc.

I have to say none of them know something about mac, that´s the problem around here, and the official mac reseller does not sell ram sticks for the g3.

I am looking for a wireless solution, I searched for the usb adapters, but only found the encore ones, that I have read not so good for mac, but since the imac g3 is going to be only for office so I can have all docs for my business, I was thinking that maybe it will be better to buy a router and connect the imac with ethernet cable, I am still looking for an airport card here in mexico with the adapter, hard to find but maybe I can....so in the meanwhile I was thinking router, and also for the future of the office, if we get bigger, I think the router will be a better choice than the usb adapter...

And yes I will plug the printer and share with other laptops. What o you think??

thanks!

For Mac memory, I've had great luck using ramseeker (whether I buy through them or in a store, 99.9% of the time I've found out which models are compatible by using their search engine):

I live in Canada and make online purchases through the US with no difficulty. I find shipping through FedEX results in an extra cross boarder charge, so as a result I request shipping through the government postal service USPS (United States Postal Service). If you buy through Other World Computers you can be sure the RAM will work.

I've also had good experiences with Trevor at CanadaRam.com

Either way, you need the correct RAM for the G3's to work. It can be a hassle.

In regards to the router, why not give it a try and see what you think of that set up. I believe you will be able to see all three computers with the iMac hard wired into the router. The problem with the USB wireless idea is the speed limitation of the USB 1.1 port (12Mbit/sec) vs. the current USB 2 speed (400Mbit/sec). You'll be able to print wirelessly but that will be it. Ethernet is much faster.

Ok. I was able to get the mac os 10.3 panther discs from a friend, and also I got the tiger in cd, so, I plan on installing panther first and test...and then see if I can get tiger on it. I used to have an ibook g4 with panther and it was great, and this g3 wont be used for big things just office and internet so panther will be just fine, although I sure wantit to be on tiger...just to have it to the max update :D

Panther is going to be faster, but software support is mostly gone, pretty much everything requires either Leopard or Tiger (web browsers especially) so despite the increased stodginess I would use Tiger.

I agree with going with Tiger. The problem at the moment is that only the 256MB RAM module works with the iMac. Tiger requires 256MB minimum but the real usuable minimum is 512MB.

If hipollito wishes, two 512MB modules can be installed in the iMac making it 1GB of total RAM. 768MB of RAM (256mb + 512mb) should be enough though.

At the same time the hdd could be upgrade from the 20GB to a maximum of 128GB. As hard drives don't come in 128GB then the next step is a 7200 rpm 160GB drive which can be bought for $50.

If hipollito choses this route the iMac will significantly speed up and Tiger should run okay (as long as hipollito partitions the first 8GB of the hdd for the OS to install on).

Well, I want tiger too, but didn´t work, it froze every 10 or 15 minutes, even with the 256mb original RAM, maybe that was the problem. When I finally get the correct RAM I will try tiger again and see what happens, I will have 640 mb of RAM. But since the imac will be for printer sharing, office files, photoshop and freehand, web browsing is not a big issue. But to be honest I want tiger in it!!!

I decided to go with the router, hope it works good, I don´t see why it wont.

Well I can say the kingston KTH-VL133/512 does not work with imac g3, so on saturday going to try different generic ram sticks, and hopefully one will work and I can install tiger. Right know it has been like2 weeks looking for RAM, but its worth it I´m in love with the imac g3, I am actually thinking of getting another one for me!!!
