So let me get this right

1. You should connect your iPhone to iTunes first and then click on serial which will then show you the UID which u should copy.

2. Now sign up to be an apple developer and pay the $99.

3. Wait for the confirmation to be emailed to u. Some say 24hr. Some say 6 to 7 days.

4. Login to the portal and add your uid from just now there

5. Download the packaged file and extract the ipsw. Easily done with poweriso.

6. Connect iPhone to iTunes, shift+restore, locate the ipsw and all is fine

I don't see why u can't do it in windows

I did all thing in this order (only took 45 minutes in my case to get the confirmation).

But I forgot to register the UDID before doing all this WHICH IS THE MAJOR MISTAKE HERE. YEAH-Stupid Me I know.

Have u tried DFU mode and seeing if iTunes allows u to see the serial number?

This thread belongs on a wall of shame. Seriously dude you paid $99 for a beta; had no intention of developing apps and now you got what you deserved...a bricked phone. you are lucky people here are kind enough to try and help you because quite frankly you don't deserve it.

What will really burn you is that from what I understand you don't need to pay the $99 to get the beta...

Not quite true, but it was still stupidity on my end. I did want to develop a app, however, if I spent 2 minutes of research, I should have realized that you cannot develop on a Windows box. Wall of shame. Yeah, I guess so.

As for the $99, I realized that I did not have to pay for that too, but like I said, my original motivation was to develop an app. The rest is, as it is marked on Wile E. Coyote, "Stupidous Maximus".

Now, I am really screwed. I am getting a 1604 error.

You guys are too funny. Open up iTunes in Windows, click on your iPhone. On the summary tab click on "Serial Number", it will then change to the UDID. Goto Edit and then Copy and your UDID is now saved to the clipboard ready to be pasted wherever. Alternatively, install the "Ad Hoc Helper" app on your iPhone which will show you the UDID as well, here's the iTunes link: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=285691333&mt=8
