    I was in the middle of installing OS X onto my external HD so I could boot from that and try to retrieve some of my files off my internal hard drive.. I don't know if it was my girlfriend, my cat, or time but when I woke up, the screen has prompted to insert "Mac OS X Install Disc 2" disc to continue installation but I believe install disc 1 was pressed back into the cd slot. I can't figure out how to get it to eject so I can insert cd 2.

    any suggestions?

    eject key isn't working, f12 isn't working

    None of those methods are working. When I reboot, no matter what key strokes I hold down it boots back to the installation screen and says

    Insert the "Mac OS X Install Disc 2" disc to continue installation

    and at the bottom it has the progress bar with;

    Time Remaining: Calculating

    and the CD1 is inserted in the tray when it clearly wants CD 2 but won't eject the first 1, which it did earlier during the night but I didn't reinsert the second cd because I was too lazy to get out of bed.

    Make sure you have the timing right. Hold Fn + Eject as soon as you hear the Mac startup sound.

    If that fails, theres other methods such as gently inserting a credit card or blank cd. But be careful.

    still can't get it out

    No matter what i've tried I can't get this cd out.

    I read online that you can set it up to not install the bundled software which is typically cd 2 of the installation cd. So I partitioned my external harddrive, then booted from the install cd 1, began installation of the OS on the external HD deselecting the bundled software, thus not requiring a cd 2 for installation. CD 1 install finished, it told me, installation is complete restart or you will be restarted in 30 seconds and there was a big white check mark in a green circle. I restarted, thing booted up again with the old screen that says please insert installation disc 2, progress bar is at 100% and cd won't come out. No matter what i've tried cd will not eject, credit card w/ tape method is not working either. I can't eject from terminal because terminal is on the install CD so if I were to eject the CD from disk utility I would wipe out the terminal application.

    any ideas?

    Hallelujah!

    After 8 hrs of trying to get this cd out, i read elsewhere of a guy who turned his computer off for several hours, then turned it on and fn+f12 ejected it on boot up. I tried it and it actually worked!!

    Thanks for your help
