After erasing the HD and proceeding to install Snow Leopard on my iMac 27", the installation would stop about half way and return the error: "Install Failed: The installer could not copy the necessary support files"

I've already tried taking out the ram sticks and unplugging unnecessary USB devices. Please help, this is beyond frustrating!

Thanks.

Try to install the system on an external drive, if all goes smoothly, then you have damaged your hard drive, if the same error, then you have a faulty optical drive. Then copy the files from the disk to flash drive, if you get an error, then you have a faulty optical disk.

Good luck!:)
