After erasing the HD and proceeding to install Snow Leopard on my iMac 27", the installation would stop about half way and return the error: "Install Failed: The installer could not copy the necessary support files"

I've already tried taking out the ram sticks and unplugging unnecessary USB devices. Please help, this is beyond frustrating! 😡

Thanks.

Try to install the system on an external drive, if all goes smoothly, then you have damaged your hard drive, if the same error, then you have a faulty optical drive. Then copy the files from the disk to flash drive, if you get an error, then you have a faulty optical disk.

Good luck!🙂
