Hey everyone. Last week I had made a thread about some issues I was having with a 2009 iMac not recognizing any installer discs or bootable USB drives I created. That mac has since gone in for service but now Im having another issue with a different mac.

I have a 2010 iMac here which requires 10.6.4 or higher. This mac was being reimaged because the HDD died and it does not have Apple Care. Ive replaced the drive with a new one but I do not have the original OSX install disc it came with. The site the mac belongs to "misplaced it." I have a disc from a 2011 iMac which has 10.6.6 on it, however.

Can you not mix install discs and use them on different model iMacs? This iMac boots into the OSX installer, I can format the disc, but then I get a "Mac OSX can't be installed on this computer" error.

If you can't mix the install DVDs, which is pretty stupid but thats just my opinion, does anyone have any ideas? I can't switch to 10.7 because this site uses some workflow automation software that is not compatible with 10.7+ and the developer doesn't have it on the roadmap to update the application until fall at the earliest.

No, you need the DVD that corresponds to the model of Mac you are trying to install the OS on. If you don't have them, Apple will supply them for you...don't be tempted by knock off stuff.
