Hi there,
I want to , or need to upgrade my iMac to install some programs i have. I got the install patch because i am not meant to install this on my older mac. I have the DMG install file, but how do i get the Installer App? When I download from the app store, it looks like it will install it immediately to my friends computer. Can I save the file from the app store? Thanks in advance-

No Apple OS came on a .dmg file. You need to download the OS from the App Store for which you need an Apple ID<it to a USB thumb drive and boot from there. As you have n oit told us what model this us, can 't help with the latest OS>

Beware not all patches work and come with no warranties.

Here is Apple's instructions on how to obtain (Step 4) and install High Sierra:

When you get to Step 5, immediately Quit the installer app at the first window, which will leave the full installer "Install macOS High Sierra" app in the Applications folder. You can then copy the installer app to another drive.

If you let the installer app run to completion then it will automatically delete from the Applications folder after installing High Sierra.

Thanks so much!

I have the bootable thumb drive, with the OS High Sierra on it. But when I try to boot it, the screen is stuck on the Apple logo. It was like that for 4 hours or more. What does that mean?

I was just trying to answer your question on how to get the full installer app in my post.

I think the problem is you are trying to install High Sierra on an unsupported iMac. If that is the case, then I'm afraid I can't help because I have not tried to patch macOS installs for unsupported Macs recently. In the past it become to much of a time waste to get and keep things working properly for me.

What is the year & model number of the iMac?
