Is this possible?

I just installed iOS 5 on my iPad 1, and after a few attempts I finally got it to work. I did a backup before I started, and then I restored from the backup once it completed (it actually asked me if I wanted to). It restored my settings, but none of my apps! My backup file is 6 GB... So what is this giant backup file for, if it doesn't restore anything nearly that size??

It restored my contacts, photos, and settings, but none of my apps or app data... Is that all lost forever?? I had notes from school and I'd hate to have lost them!

I did just now check the Apps tab in iTunes, and it seems to be missing a few (one in particular I was hoping it would have saved the data for).

So is there any way to do this easily? Did I miss a step or something?

I want to do my iPhone next (glad I did iPad first!), I basically want the end result to be me having iOS 5, as well as all of my previous apps and app data... How can I accomplish this?

Thanks for any tips!

Anyone? I know there's got to be a way to do this and I just missed something...

Yes You can upgrade and keep all of your Apps and Data! Make sure that you Perform a Backup of your phone and copy the iTunes Folder to a safe location as a back up just in case prior to uninstalling iTunes and installing iTunes Beta!

After iTunes Beta is installed sync first and then perform a Backup. Then Upgrade to iOS 5 and when it comes online restore from the recent backup you just created prior to installing iOS 5;)\

I run my entire Business off of my iPhone so yes this is accurate information that I have given you in the proper sequential order that I have just done myself and with nothing but love with the results.

I made a backup of my iPhone prior to downloading iTunes 5 and iOS 5, but I can't seem to find my backup anywhere. Any suggestion? Mine never asked me if I wanted to restore from a backup or set up as a new iPhone... it automatically set my iPhone up as new.

I'm not sure here... I did mine on an iPad, and it asked me during the setup if I wanted to set up as new, or restore from a backup. I restored from backup, but it did not restore all of my apps... When I went to sync the apps, they were there, but not all of them. I'm not sure why.

Try plugging into iTunes, then right-click your device and restore from backup? Although I did read that sometimes these beta releases will accidentally overwrite your backup if you set up as new...

I'm having the same problem. Everything ran smoothly but I have no apps. Just the native ones. Odd thing is that whenever you re install a missing app the appdata is still there so that's a plus.
