I have El capitan on my macbook pro, I decided to make a partition and install an older version of OSX, as some of the software i'm using doesn't work on 10.11. I created a partition, but now I'm not sure how to download Mavericks and install it on that partition.

When I try to access the partition on startup, nothing appears, it just shows the main partition not the one i created.

Any ideas?

You can't see the new partition because there is no bootable system on it yet. If you have previously downloaded Mavericks then it should be available for download via the Purchased tab on the App Store. Download Mavericks, it will automatically launch after download, then select the new partition and install it.

First off, it's important to note that only if your Mac shipped with Mavericks or earlier it will actually run it. What year/model your MacBook Pro is? If you have upgraded any of your Macs to Mavericks to one point or another, you can just go to the Mac App Store, go to the Purchased tab, and choose OS X Mavericks and download it. Then, run the installer and install on the APPROPRIATE PARTITION. If it doesn't let you do it because you're running OS X El Capitan currently, get an 8GB USB flash drive (if you don't have a free one, you can just backup data on whatever USB stick you find and use it temporarily) and use DiskMaker X (search for it on Google). Then, you will be able to boot into the USB partition and install it there. ONCE AGAIN, DO NOT CHOOSE THE WRONG PARTITION!

If you haven't upgraded one of your Macs to Mavericks at one point or another and you don't have it in your downloads, I don't think there is any legal way of obtaining it (maybe unless you have the $99 dev account).

It's a Mid 2012, I think I had mountain lion and then i upgraded to Mavericks. The problem is, when i log into the app store it only shows El Capitan in my purchase list. Another thing is that Apple are trying to get me to verify my email but each time I request the link I receive no email. So it looks like a strange glitch with my account.

Thanks, i understand what to do now, i just have to get my ID verified with Apple
