Install OS 10.4 on External HD

I have a DMG of Mac OS X 10.4 and I need it installed to a external HD. How do I install it this way? Any time I click on install it says cant install pervious versions of the OS, but the DVD i burned it to wont boot from the DVD.

Anyone?

1. Obtain a legal copy of Tiger on DVD via Ebay or Craigslist and make sure it is the Retail box copy.

2. Boot from DVD by holding down C button on startup.

3. Install to any attached disk. Reformat if necessary.
