Actually, I did register on the tonymac forum a couple years ago, when I was working on a hackintosh on my desktop. I was partially successful, in that I can boot to OSX Snow Leopard...if I disconnect my drive that has Win XP and connect drive with OSX and set it as first boot device. Both OS's are on their own dedicated drives, not a partition. I wanted to see if I could do it, but do to the glitch, it is not a very feasible settup.
My inquiry at this time stems from my original reason for doing it in the first place: My wife is an author and also ebook formatter. The only way Apple allows uploading books to the iBook store is from a Mac or Apple pc, not even from iPad. But it won't make sense on my rig. The Asus laptop I linked to is what I bought her a few months ago, and would like to find the easiest / most reliable way with easy access.

Since this is your first post, I guess you registered on a variety of websites to ask the same question. Were the following any of those sites, because they specialise on that area?
- tonymacx86 Blog - very good guides and quite good message board
- InsanelyMac Forum
- InsanelyMac Hardware Database
- Hackintosh.com
- OSx86 Project
SSD or HDD don't matter, internal or external probably do due to different motherboards and chipsets and so on.
