I just began using OS X, so all of my work was done on Windows. One of the programs I used frequently was Final Draft which is compatible on both operating systems. However when I attempt to install it via flash drive , I get a message saying "No default application set to open the file" and I must pick one. These programs are foreign to me, in windows I can just open and run a .exe file.

What do I do?

The .exe file is the Windows executable version of the software. You need the Mac application, which usually has a .dmg or .app extension.

You need to get the Mac version of the software. The Windows one will not work unless you get a program like Crossover, but even then it probably won't work.
