Hello everyone,

I'm trying to help a friend fix his MacBook (white plastic) which has the folder with the question mark issue. I figured I'd do a clean install of Leopard but when the installation disk boots, it says it cannot detect Tiger which is necessary for the upgrade. I tried erasing the partition, but it gives me an error and stops the operation. Is there some possible way to install Leopard anyway or can someone suggest something else? Thanks very much!

Hold C while booting the computer so you can do a fresh install outside of the operating system. That should do the trick. Use disk utility then to wipe the drive. And also edit the part out of your post about software piracy...that's frowned upon here.

Sorry about that, I'm very ignorant when it comes to these forum 'laws'. I've actually use the method you mentioned before and it, unfortunately, does nothing. I retried it just now and the installation DVD was ejected. If I were to leave the disk in an turn on the computer, it automatically boots from the disk, but problems persist regardless.

Well I think I'm making some progress. The disk utility is actuallly wiping out the drive this time, unlike before. I guess I should be able to install Leopard on top of that without any issues?
