Installation: DVD vs FLASH DRIVE

Hi!
I just have a silly question, I've always been using the DVD to reinstall the OS onto my macbook ,but I've heard people use USB flash drives... Is there any advantage of using that method or is just cause people have the OS stored on the usb drive? Thanks!
 
There's not really an advantage, some people just have it on a flash drive, or they don't have an optical drive
 
I believe it is faster to install with a flash drive. The read speeds seem quicker than DVD read speeds.
