Does the Mac meet the requirements for installing 10.4?

The discs you borrowed won't work on this Mac.

Your Mac came with its system specific installer DVD's.

Depending on the age a PowerPC 10.4 retail installer will work or you'll have to get Leopard.

What system are you trying to install OS on?

What does the install disk look like?
If Gray disk: Machine specific, will not install on a different line of Macs.
If Black disk:10.4 will not install on intel macs.

If you don't have the original installer discs for it I suggest that you go get Leopard. If your friend has an identical MacBook Pro the discs they loaned should work.

Do you know which MacBook Pro revision?
