And because I know mac users have an unhealthy obsession with ram I thought i'd share.

    I just installed 16gb of this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145281

    And it works flawlessly.

The stock 2x 2gb of ram that was in the imac is labled Elpida. A brand i've never heard of. Even apple will use no name brands to save money. Which is fine, ram is ram.

Thats the RAM I was also looking at, thanks for sharing I will probably do the same.

The extra RAM, does that come into play when using Final Cut and other video editing programs?

Elpida is an actual memory manufacturer with it's own manufacturing plants. A lot of the brand name memory you see in shops (Kingston, OCZ, Corsair etc.) are just relabeled memory from companies such as Elpida. In the same way you can buy Dell monitors, but Dell doesn't make them, they're just Samsung displays.

Why would Apple buy from Corsair, when they can buy direct from the manufacture ;)
