I upgraded to Mojave and ever since I have this weird icon in my menu bar. Does anyone know what it is and how to remove it? Clicking/Right clicking on it does nothing and only shows a blank menu. Any help is appreciated.

Go to Activity Monitor. Do you see any weird processes? That's not a part of Mojave...

There was a menubar app (I can’t remember its name) which showed a similar icon once the trial period was over.

It's definitely not an official Apple app. There's an app called "AppCleaner" that can completely uninstall old apps... Try that. If it can't help, go into your home folder > Library > LaunchAgents and delete anything that sounds like it could be related to that app. Do the same with Library > LaunchDaemons and then go into Macintosh HD > Library > LaunchAgents and repeat, and also with Library > LaunchDaemons.

This is usually a trial period that has expired. I had this the first time I used iStatMenu. Not particularly malware or anything.

I figured it out. It was iStat Menus which kept launching even though it was in my Launch apps from the User Login page. So I uninstalled that and it fixed it.
