Now that I know that the iPod touch has the same binaries as the iPhone, can I use installer.app on it? Sorry if I repeated an obvious question.

From what i've read, it's not working yet.
Shouldn't be far away at all now.

Keep an eye on http://www.ipodtouchhacks.com/ipod/touch/hacks/ for updates on the efforts to transfer the jailbreak to the ipod touch
