Installing 10.5.8 on 2009 imac that came with 10.6... Airport card not detected!??

Help please!
I have an imac (late 2009) that came with snow leopard. I've tried to install 10.5.8 on this computer but it doesn't seem to be working properly. Airport isn't recognized with 10.5.8 installed.?? I used the original install disk to install snow leopard again, and the airport card is recognized. Erased & installed 10.5.8 again from (Leopard Retail disk) & no airport. ? The imac also seemed to be having issues starting up from the Leopard install disk causing kernel panic message? (your computer need to be restarted..) and having to be turned off & on again. Any advice?

You generally cannot install an OS earlier than the one that came with your Mac. There are new devices and hence new device drivers that simply do not exist in the older OS.

That iMac requires 10.6.0 or newer. Anything older will cause problem.

Thanks for the replies. I have a early 2009 Mini that came with SL onto which I installed 10.5.8 and it has been fine... any idea why this imac is less cooperative?

The early 2009 Mini came with Leopard. This iMac requires Snow Leopard as Leopard does not have the drivers or the support to make it work properly. There is nothing you can do to make 10.5 work well or at all on that iMac.
