After installing a Linux program on my Mac, as it was installing, I saw my hard drive space being eaten-up in real-time. It took like 2GB from me. The install didn't work out, and now the program is gone, but the 2GB is still eaten up. What's going on?

Just did a re-install of the OS (not a clean install), and restored everything that was missing using Migration Assistant (and Time Capsule). Now, my Time Capsule is backing up a lot of data. Is this because it calculated the changes since the last backup and is backing up everything that has changed?
