Installing .DMG

Hello to all, i am a new MAC user and am facing some probs.

When i download .DMG files and install, the program ends up on the desktop. How do i route it to applications instead of desktop.

when you mount the .dmg, drag the application icon to the desired folder (usually 'applications') and drop. the program will then install itself. after the program has installed, you can unmount the image.
