Installing El Captain - new free HD space

For some reason, I had only 60 gb left on my 128 gb SSD drive and after installing El Captain, I have 75 gb left. I'm using the OS X Disk Utility as a reference.

Any idea what causes this? Also, is there a way to clean up your system of old cached files as a standard procedure?

idk, but my SSD drive went from 113gb of free space to 137gb.

same for me. went from 25 gigs of free space up to 51 gigs .. sure hope nothing important got deleted

Seems like everyone got around 20 gb back.
