I have 3 Macs within my family that I would like to upgrade to SL. Sounds like the Family Pack upgrade would be a great purchase.

However, if at some point, I want to reinstall SL on a SL-loaded machine, do I need to reinstall Leopard, to get Snow Leopard to recognize the upgrade?

Or will SL allow installations of SL directly?

I don't think we'll really know until official release copies are delivered but I've seen (non-Apple) upgrade discs that only require you insert the original media for verification and then it spits it out so you can install the upgrade w/o having to install the original first.

Knowing Apple and SJ's penchant for simplicity I'm confident it won't be difficult to do a clean install.

You can install from Tiger, and you can install onto a brand new hard drive with the "upgrade" disk. This is the same as any Apple release: Every printed disk is identical.
