Installing HIS Radeon HD4870 512MB DDR5 in Mac Pro 2006

Still no luck

I've tried everything. Card is sometimes detected and sometimes not.

When it's detected, the monitor is going on (my Cinema Display LED goes off), but I got black screen and Vista is normally booting.

Tried different slots and removing 7300GT also didn't helped.

Any ideas ?

My card was taken by DHL for RMA

This card is now out of stock, so probably they will give me something else. Maybe 1 GB HIS card

Good news ! I just had a DHL in my house and they gave me my card repaired !

It works without any problems in Slot 2 (PCI-EX 8x), default cooling, power from motherboard and Catalyst 9.8 drivers I needed to remove my 7300GT.

No what's to do:

- install Accelero with Noctua fan to make card working in Slot 1 and PCI-EX 16x
- flash the card in FreeDOS to make it work on Mac OS X (I'm scared)

Is there any way to make it work on Mac OS X 10.5.8 without flashing ?

I will follow the same procedure as in the ultimate HD4890 thread.

Currently I got kernel panic when I start Mac OS X.

It didn't worked with netkas injectors, but I've flashed the card with my own custom BIOS and it works !!!

I will install Accelero again and put card in Slot 1 to get 16x then post results.

I will keep my 7300GT in a BOX in case something fail in future.

Everything is working in Slot 1 and PCI-EX 16x both in Windows and Mac OS X. I will post pictures tommorow

If you follow it it will work 100% OK.

I've putted my modified BIOS in attachment.

I was scared not only about flashing procedure, but also if the card would work with Accelero + Noctua 800 rpm fan but it works great ! Temps in max. load are not bigger than 60C (47C in idle). This makes the card working like completly passive (this Noctua fan is inaudible, so you won't hear it at all).
