So here's the deal, the hard drive on my friend's 2011 15" Macbook Pro finally gave up on him so I decided to replace it for him. The system had never been upgraded before so it was running Mac OS X Lion before it broke. Now, how would I go about installing OS X El Captain or at the least OS X Lion? Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

Use either OS X Internet Recovery or download El Capitan, on another Mac and create a bootable installer for OS X.
