I just got my new hardrive I got hooked up via USB I plan to use it as an internal hardrive I just used disk utility to copy over "Macintosh HD" is the OS copied over also? Or did I spend two hours doing nothing 😕

How did you copy MacintoshHD via Disk Utility?

There is software that clones (makes exact and bootable copies) your internal HDD to any external HDD.

Also what Mac OS X version do you have, what Mac and what external HDD do you possess?

…

I have Snow Leopard I posses a 120 GB hardrive and did it via disk utility my new hardrive is a 500GB Hitachi and I connected it with a wire I ordered from OWC.

It is a bit easier to do it the opposite way. Put in the new HD into the computer and take the old one and put it in the external case. Then boot off the OSX DVD and reinstall the OS. Once it is installed it will ask if you want to transfer settings from an old drive / machine. Say yes, and plug in the USB drive. Then it will copy the information from the external drive.

Works great.
