I was trying to install Office 2008 SP1 Update 12.1.0 and the install program freezes.

I am at the point where it says:

Preparing Office 2008 SP1 Update (12.1.0)
Running AutoUpdate Installer Script
(you can look at the attached jpg screen shot)

The progress bar has a little blue at the beginning, but it never progresses.

If I click on the red x to try to close the window, I get the message:
Installer Busy
The window cannot be closed because the Installer is busy. OK

In order to quit I have to force close the program.

Thanks for you help.

Bill

Move that window and I bet you find a another window with a warning that the program can't find some file, I don't remember what it says but for some reason this window pops up behind the one you show and you do not know it is there. I had the same problems until i moved the top window and there it was, you just click continue or what ever it is saying to continue and the install loads with no problem.

Solution

I ended up going to the Microsoft website and downloaded SP1 from there. When I used that file, it installed without a problem.

Thanks,

Bill

When I went to shut down (after the successful install) there was still a window with a warning hiding underneath just as you said.

Thx for Bill&Ross

Thx for your info... that help me in succeeding the installation process

Thanks for the help. Must be the most stupid installation error ever :)
