Hi guys, i recently got a used tray loading iMac G3 with a wiped hard drive. When I boot from the OS 9 CD and try to install OS 9, I get errors telling me to update the firmware, but when I try to update the firmware, I get errors saying that it can't install anything because the CD is a locked volume and I can't boot from the hard drive. Is there a way to install OS 9 on this machine?

You won't be able to install the Firmware being booted from CD :( so you're going to have to find a copy of OS 8.6 or something to be able to install, update the firmware, and then upgrade to OS 9.x. I'm not saying that it's the easiest way, but the only way that I know of.
