I have a 12" Powerbook G4 that I recently purchased used. I restored it to its original OS of 10.2.8. I bought a tiger DVD from a user on Macnn and the DVD says:
"Mac OS X Tiger
Includes Xcode 2
CPU Drop In DVD"

When I try to install it (reboot to dvd) it says I need to have 10.3 or later installed on the system to install Tiger. Do I really need to get 10.3 or is there a way for me to use this DVD? If so, I probably need to format the harddrive and install it on to a blank system.

Please help me and I'd appreciate any input from the wise mac users!

The drop-in DVD is supposed to stay with the system that it was dropped in with. (that makes sense, right?)

It need to be at 10.3.. it was put in so you could upgrade to Tiger, if you bought it on tiger night or the week near it, you could still have the new OS, without them throwing away thousands of CDs with old OSes.

If you can, return the DVD. You'll be a lot better off with a legitimate retail copy of Tiger because it will just flat out install on any (supported) Mac regardless of which (if any) OS is already installed.
