I am replacing a PowerMac G-3 Desktop running OS 9.2.2 with a used 20" iMac G-4/1.25.

The iMac came with OS 10.3.5 on it but no OS install disks and without so-called Classic installed. I pretty well know my way around everything from OS 7.5 through 9.2, but OSX is a whole new ball game for me. For various reasons I need to have the capability to work in both OS 9 and OS10.

The previous owner left various bits and pieces of his own stuff on the computer and I would prefer to get rid of all of that and start fresh. So, the question is where do I go from here? I wouldn’t mind erasing the hard disk, buying new OS 10.4 software (or whatever I need to buy), and installing that as long as I can somehow manage to use OS-9 in the Classic mode.

The serial # on my IMac is W8345027PVX and I have been told that it will not boot from an OS 9 disk.

I tried to install OS 9.1 and 9.2. from several disks that I had on hand with no success but I’m certain that all of these disks were older than the computer.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where or how to come up with whatever software I need to get em operating in Classic mode as well as OS 10?

Any help/ advice/ recommendations anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Mel
