Installing OSX 10.4.2 problems!

I have a 15" powerbook G4, and I just erased and partitioned the computer so it's clean. When it boots from the CD the installer lets me select the language then it says:

Alert
This software cannot be installed on this computer.

I tried my own disc and a friends'. Any ideas? SMART status is verified, and ive verified and fixed permissions, even though there is nothing on the partition
 
Is it a retail OS X installation disk or a restore disk that shipped with one of the computers?

If you using a Grey OS X installation disk that came with one of the computers then it may be specific to that computer. Some of the install disks work only with the Macs they ship with. If you can get a retail OS X install disk then try that.
