I have a 2006 MacPro running Tiger and would like to upgrade to Snow Leopard. However, the internal DVD drive is broken.

Is it possible to put SLeopard onto an external drive with firewire using someone elses mac, and then install it onto mine from there?

I think it is but I haven't found any step by step. Do I have to use "firewire target disk mode" for both computers?

Any help would be great.

Just use target disk mode on the mac with the good drive. Boot up from the mac you want to install SL onto holding down "option", and choose the install disk. I think that will work for you.
