okay... i've been sitting here for over 3 hours just trying to get SSH working on my iphone so i can install new apps and such.

    so far... zero luck.

i'm on a PPC mac... so i've been trying everything i can find for PPCs, but nothing is working right. i also have virtual PC installed with XP so i've been trying as many different windows tricks as i can find and once again... nothing. i think my problem with XP is that i can't install service pack 2 for some reason... therefore, i can't get iphone support within itunes.

i know this doesn't really explain what all i've tried... but does anyone have any tips for me? i can post what all i've tried if it really helps... but some sort of PPC tutorial would be great.

I thought you needed Jailbreak to do this, in which case there is no version of Jailbreak for PPC - the universal version does not work.

iActivator will jailbreak the iPhone just fine on PPCs. So after using that, I should technically be able to install SSH...

    1. Download the SSH install script.
    http://iphone.port21.com/Code/iPhone_SSH_Install_for_Mac.zip

    2. Open Terminal, cd to directory you unzipped that too.

    3. sh iPhoneMacSSHInstall.sh

It will install it for you. During the script, you'll need to restart the iPhone three times and press enter after each time. It's very easy.

that one doesn't work because it uses the iphoneinterface and not the new iPHUC (that supposedly works on PPC)

Have you build iPHUC for PPC yet? I may be able to edit the script to work with iPHUC. It will probably take a while though.

Interesting. I haven't read much about this yet. Looks like a nice package since it seems to include everything. A quick stab at it fails, though. Is there anything else needed?

This fails at several steps. There are at least several paths wrong and an inconsequential open quote in the shell script...

i even tried that on an intel machine (my friend's) yesterday, and it didn't work. i jailbreaked first then ran that and it apparently didn't work right because i still can't SSH to it. in case anything was wrong with my phone, i did a system restore and tried again, with no luck.

You're sure you're using the right IP address? It's not always 10.0.1.25

    Mine was 10.0.1.193

i finally got it to work. for some reason, the script didn't work for me. i ended up manually going through and putting in a ton of commands into terminal.
