First off, that's a USB drive, which, while it will be able to boot an Intel Mac, will be oppressively slow, so I don't recommend it. You're far better off with FireWire.

Regardless, though, you'll have to format the disk as HFS+ to be able to install OS X on it. You can do that from Disk Utility either booted from your internal drive or booted from the Tiger DVD.

Okay then im just going to use my intern harddisk to all the systems and put all the files in the extern.
one problem.
In disk utility when im partiotionating my disk i can only choose in format. Mac OS (extended).

And im both gonna have windows, linux, tiger AND a leopard partition.
how come i cant choose unix, MS-DOS format anymore?
i could in tiger : (
