I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to install 64-bit windows 7 pro on my macbook pro. I have the upgrade version, as well as valid windows XP SP1. Is there a way I can make this work?

Follow this guide to perform a clean install using upgrade media. You should have no problems.

Also, make sure that your MBP is on this list (basically earlier 2008 or later) so the Boot Camp drivers install easily, otherwise you may have to do more work to get it fully installed.
