Installing Windows XP on my Mac

Although I haven't yet bought a Mac, I plan to after having my eyes opened at an Apple Store.
But my question is whether it would be possible to install XP on my Mac, from an installation disc which came with my present Dell.
I think it's particular to Dell in some ways, but I'm not sure if it would work.
If it's illegal (which I doubt), tell me and of course I wouldn't do it.

I had the installation disks that came with my Dell. I'm not sure how it should work on a mac but read this thread:

I think it might be illegal since it is intended only for use on that specific Dell machine.
