I'm trying to download AIM (http://www.aim.com/get_aim/mac/latest_macosx.adp)
but it goes through an installer. My dad is on a buisness trip so there's no way of getting the password. I notice some apps don't need the admin password or even the whole installing process to install. Is there any way I could get around this?

The apps that don't need the admin password are contained within themselves, so you just drag and drop into the application folder. You could try adium, it can be used as a substitute for AIM.
