hey guys, im having a problem:

i have a 2G iPod touch running 4.2.1 firmware. i have it jailbroken with redsn0w, and i have cydia installed and running. i have no problem installing some packages, but whenever i try to install packages that require me to reboot my iTouch, it freezes on the reset screen (with the silver apple). at this point i have to plug my iTouch in to my PC and put it into DFU mode, then restore it and re-jailbreak it (i lose all my apps and progress which makes me very unhappy).

if anyone knows the solution to this problem, or could help me troubleshoot it, i would greatly appreciate it. thanks!

Right now, Redsnow's jailbreak is Tethered. Everytime you restart, you have to put on the USB cables and jumpstart from your computer (essentially re-run Redsnow and select Boot into Tethered mode.

Unless of course, you're on Redsnow 0.9.7 for Mac beta. That one apparently gives you untethred support (the way it should be)

i understand that it is tethered, but when it freezes up, my computer wont recognize it until i put it in DFU mode, at which point i have to restore it via itunes in order to get it to function again.

hello

I had the same problem and this is what i did
i went to www.jailbreakme.com on my ipod touch
folow the instructions and that gives you cyida
and i've had no problems since.

I hope this helps.

That won't work on 4.2.1.

And OP: you should restore, rejailbreak and skip installous.
