I cant find a decent instant messenging client that will let me chat on facebook without having to actually be on my web browser. tried adium wouldnt let me log in.

any tips?

I don't think there are any now. It used to work on Adium, then broke, then was fixed and worked for a while and then broke for good with the final PowerPC version. FB changes it's APIs too much.

It probably works on the Intel version though.

Try using Jabber settings for Facebook in Adium. It works for me. This website may help.
