Instant Notes not working, iPad Pro 9.7

Hello -

I can't seem to get instant notes to work on my iPad Pro 9.7. The current behavior I am getting is when tapping the screen with my Apple Pencil, it merely unlocks the iPad and doesn't open a new note. I have the notes setting with "Access Notes from Lock Screen" turned on.

Googling I believe my settings are correct but I may be missing something...thoughts?

try a hard reset of your iPad. Sometimes I find this to work
