Is everyone using password on theirs? I am, and I have this problem.

I haven't tried myself yet, but I wonder if it wakes faster if it is just going to your desktop.

I definitely think it has to do with the 2011 model. My 2010 with the same specs woke fine, even with Lion

Actually I think its Lion.

My 2010 11" was fast before installing Lion, and now wake-from-sleep is 5-6 seconds before mouse becomes useable.

OK, I just tried on my '10 MBA 11" with 2GB mem. I have Lion on it now.

From clamshell sleep, it took less than 1.5 seconds for screen to turn on and my trackpad was responsive the instant the screen was on.

It was the same when I had SL installed. So, it's not Lion.

Not to be rude, but several people including myself have said this. It's the 2011 model.

Yes, I know. But other posts, like the one right before mine, were still was claiming Lion as the culprit. So, I was posting my experience as evidence to the contrary.

O sorry... i agree w\ u, it's not lion.

On the bright side, sleep occurs much faster :). On my iMac in 10.6, I would press the power button and it would take 3-4 seconds for the screen to shut off. In Lion, the screen goes dark instantly, and is actually asleep 1-2 seconds later.

Just adding my 2 cents.

Times from opening of the lid to the time screen comes on...

1-2 Seconds: My 2010\128\4GB MBA 11" running Snow Leopard
4-7 Seconds: My 2011\128\4GB MBA 11" running Lion

Something definitely is different with these new models, unsure if it's Lion (as I'd installed Lion on my old model but didn't have it on for more than a day before upgrading to 2011 model, so unsure).... or the difference in hardware is causing the delay.

Either way, in best case scenarios, 4 seconds is what I'm getting, and that's certainly not "instant on" in any sense of the phrase.

Hopefully Apple will release an update to resolve this.

It's Lion IMO. I've got the 2010 model and it takes longer to resume under Lion than under SL.

The other thing I notice is the lights on the keyboard seem really erratic, and the computer sometimes wakes randomly from sleep even with wifi off, lol

Odd, cuz as I mentioned above, mine wakes just as fast under Lion as it did previously under SL. Heck, I'd almost say it's even faster. It really is instant for me. I have the 11" with only 2GB and 64 GB SSD. And yes, its the older SSD. (Mentioning this in case we want to do comparisons of configs among the different experiences.)

My 2011 MBA is instant to resume to an unlock screen for the first couple of hours after I put it to sleep. In the morning, after it's been asleep all night, though, it takes about 5-10 seconds. My guess is that it's going into some kind of serious low-power state that it's taking a couple of seconds extra to get out of.

It must have to do with the speed of the solid state drive?

I have a Macbook 2008, with a SSD, & Lion. From sleep, lid closed, it's about a second or less for the instant on. But then I don't have a password lock screen.
