I work 12 hours a day at my computer thought XDR would be justified but this thing is not even that impressive.

Well, duh; it's not very impressive. It has less than half the PPI of an iPhone and only a 60 FPS refresh rate; its main merits are perfect blacks, size, brightness, and colour accuracy, which can be found in cheaper displays. After a certain point, there are diminishing returns with displays; Pro Display XDR isn't targetted at power users and just "people that use screens all day"; it's for specific use cases. Probably best to try it before you buy it (or try it by buying it then returning it).

Yeah I have a feeling OP is not in the target audience for this display. Probably not going to see the benefits of it. I sit in front of a screen all day too but I don’t do photography or video editing which is where the Pro Display XDR excels. It would not be worth it for me to get it.

a 27" Ultrafine is 1300. I don't understand that if someone has the means going for the XDR for a superior build quality, screen/picture quality and overall experience is so crazy?

If I walk into my office from bed every morning and smile when I see a stout beautiful machined piece of aluminum standing proudly next to my M1 air I don't see how that's so insane?

How is it any difference than someone purchasing a viking refrigerator or anything top of the line that is "more" than they need.

If I keep this thing for 8 years the cost isn't exactly an issue then is it? No way new technology will have made this panel obsolete in 8 years.

And if you are happy that’s great, but that’s not how you started the thread.

Your thread was called “Instant Regret” and you said you weren’t impressed with the monitor.

I can be happy. I can also be tunnel visioned by the display. Is my justification rationale or is this a poor purchase?

If you have the means to buy this monitor, there is nothing wrong with paying for design/quality, there is no other monitor on the market with that type of build.

Don't confuse regret with the possible new feeling of finally affording to splurge on high end stuff. My friends buy $6K leather accessories for their Ferrari, while I buy an XDR.

TL;DR work hard, play hard!

TBH I think it's a pretty good investment if you are looking at spreadsheets all day on a 32-inch screen. It's the only kid on the block that gets you that level of pixel density, and especially with super tiny numbers, its high pixel density and its brightness are both really nice to have. At 32 inches, even 4K is going to start looking a bit fuzzy with smaller fonts.

I totally agree. It's a piece of nice work, which will make you feel good every time you look at it.
