Agreed. My response was a little...aggressive. It's just that here we are, all waiting for the Macbook Pro and in a forum to discuss it, and then you entered complaining about having to buy one. Do you kind of see where I'm coming from?

Oh sure, I like to be devil's advocate of course, and I guess I just wanted to poke a bit at the mac snobbery I see all around me in my life:

Working in film projects most everyone is into their macs and I have to hear the lectures about how horrible my PC is, and see those silly ads etc, so being contrarian it just makes me want to push back a bit, for fairness sake, it gets old to hear how awful vista is when I've had a great experience with it, and wouldn't go back to XP for anything.

Just because one is good, doesn't mean the other isn't good too, I guess is my point. OSX causes me issues because things are backwards from what I'm used to, it's like if I had to suddenly write with my right hand, being left handed I can do it but you wouldn't have too much luck trying to read it. If I practiced though it would get more legible (like the newton...)

Having said that, now that I will be getting one of these, I do want to be informed and I'm excited about getting a new laptop of any sort, as I've just had a desktop for about 3 years now.

The MPB is a great looking machine, and I think it will be a good mobile workhorse for video. And hopefully hearing my unusal thoughts (for these parts) is more interesting than the endless debate about which keyboard people prefer...

As for the sticker - well I may not slap it directly over the backlit :apple:, maybe just next to it. It will ease the amount of crap I will take from just about everyone I know after years of OSX bashing... I look at it like Joker in Full Metal Jacket when he confused the general by having a peace button next to "born to kill" on his helmet...

Yeah, i know it's not going to get cheaper, i just meant all i see is the next rumored picture of the macbook pro and i'm more interseted in the macbook because as a college student i couldn't afford , unless i want to chrage a macbook and also tack on 50,000 a year school i don't think that's a wise idea

The MacBook won't be updated before the school year begins. They've never been done at the same time.

are you saying that macbooks and macbook pros have never been updated at the same time? they have been updated at the same time before.

If you can find out when they have been updated with a major platform change like moving to Montevina at the same time you win!

But I can't find or remember a time when both the Macbook and the MBP (PB or ibook) were significantly updated at the same time. Usually the MBP gets the highest performance features first then the MB catches up later. There have been times when both have received a minor speed bump in processors at the same time but not a redesign or a platform change at the same time.

I don't know if this information can give a clue about when we can expect a new MBP or MB.
But for the last couple of days is hasn't been possible to order a MBP or MB with danish characters on the danish web shop. You can only get US or british layout.
Don't know if is just the site malfunctioning or that they are out of stock...

I keep my fingers crossed for an update soon...

My first post... Whee :)

This is interesting. :)

Along the lines of what others have said, I'm going to be a junior this fall as a computer science major and I've gotten this far using my home desktop and the school's computer labs but I've decided I really need to get a laptop for this coming semester.

I was looking at the Dell XPS M1530 and with coupons it is cheaper than the mbp with student discount but I'm still leaning towards the mbp. This would be my first mac purchase so I really do hope they get a new revision out by at least September. Plus the free ipod touch would be nice.

I need something. A leak. An official comment. Even another damn mock-up :p

Announce them, just to put my nerves to rest! I don't care if they official release isn't until the end of September, I just need to know it's there!

If they were to do that, then no one would buy the current laptops. :p

Some people don't research before they buy, but if there was an obvious announcement than they would know to wait. Even though a lot of us here are expecting them, some go ahead and buy because we don't know when exactly it will be and we need/want them sooner. But if we did know then a lot more would just keep waiting, knowing they would only have to go a month or a few weeks without.

Buy a Mac anyways. It will last longer.

a myth that needs to be tested

I wonder if that's actually true for MacIntels....

Apples are made with the same components as other PCs, sometimes even on the same Asian assembly lines. You hear stories about slipping quality control (logic board failures, disk failures, display problems,...). Some of Apple's designs sacrifice cooling function for style, leading to hot-running systems (which is not a good thing for longevity).

Maybe if you compare Apples to the super-cheap PCs (the $400 specials) you'll see longer life - but I doubt that there's much difference between an Apple and a mid to high end consumer or business PC. One of my office systems is a Compaq Pentium III from 2001 (dual 1GHz) that's still running fine.
