My Intel mini was having video problems (some icons had artifacts and random squares of pink showed up on my screen). They went away after the firmware update.

I believe he was referring to the original BootCamp firmware update that was released a while back. This new SMC update is different from that onetehdee said:

Go ahead and install it on your iMac. No worries there. The MacBook Pro's constantly change clock speed to keep the temperature down. I've not noticed this on my iMac at all!

Nope. Seems that the 2.16Ghz 15" that my cousin purchased today had the SMC Firmware update in his software update.NJuul said:
