I just checked intel chip prices and i was :eek: @ the cost per unit for consumers (rough retail price)

Yes i know that :apple: doesn't pay those prices but still..

No, Apple doesn't pay those prices. What you showed were the desktop versions, Apple uses the more expensive, low power mobile versions of these chips. The prices that you show match the latest Intel price list that I could find (effective December 24th, 2006) when buying in trays of 1000. Google "Intel price list".
 
still do. i've gone through the 23 stages of being replaced, and have come out clean on the other side. Some others I work with have this face :mad: when you mention :apple:

johnee - you can't come on this board and say you're an IBM engineer who was involved w/ the PPC 970 and then leave it at that! What's the scoop! I remember all the speculation in '01-'02-'03 about the Motorola G5, and how news of the 970 surfaced and it was seen as Apple's savior... what's the story, in 10,000 words or more?
