Spanish site faq-mac.com, which was first to note an Intel promotion yesterday apparently revealing at least one forthcoming MacBook Pro based on the company's new Core i5 processors, now reports [Google translation] that Intel has revised the promotion to offer HP Envy notebooks instead of MacBook Pros, blaming a marketing error for the incorrect promotional materials.
Intel has apologized for the mistake and the confusion they have created with this slip, which it blamed on a lack of communication from their central marketing agency.

Intel has modified the artwork for the promotion, which was available in several countries, to reflect the "new" laptop model available for the drawing.
Apple is expected to introduce an update to its MacBook Pro line, which was last revised in June 2009, in the relatively near future, with Intel's new Core i5 processors seen as the most likely candidate for inclusion in the next-generation models.

are these really marketing mistakes or are they marketing "mistakes"....? meaning, do marketing companies put up misleading info to excite people and get them to iquire about the product/ad....then a day or so later release an "apology" and "fix" the ad to reflect the real situation.

seems that they were making a misleading ad to prey on the anticipation of the Apple i5 processors and the excitement that Apple updates bring.

Just another carefully orchestrated leak...but an upgrade none the less!!!
:)
Hopefully Apple pricing will be in line with the industry unlike the ridiculous pricing of the faster iMac.

I could buy that it was an actual mistake, though it may be signs of what's to come anyway. Some half-informed person at Intel may have assumed that a Core i5 MacBookPro was already on the market and put it in the contest.

This seems to be exactly what's going on.

from macbook pro to an HP POS? that's gotta be the worst promotion ever.

"i was gonna work my ass for for that macbook... but an HP? meh, i'm going back to bed."

I think that i5 imac is okey priced if you like display
mac pro should be cheaper or faster

I wonder if Jobs will replace Intel with AMD CPUs like they did with ATI when ATI pre-announced new PowerMacs before MWNY 2001? That would be funny right there.

Apple please... the day you jumped on the Intel bandwagon, you opened yourself up to predictability as far as intel processor roadmaps are concerned. Nowadays it's a matter of when and not if... everyone one else is i5-ing, and the last refresh was many moons ago. Go figure.

this gives me a very bad feeling about actually seeing Macbook Pro's with new processors in the near future. I so hope I am wrong!

I agree, the i5 iMac is reasonably priced considering it comes with a huge display. The Mac Pro, not so much.

A huge dissapointment of a display with it's yellow tinge and flickering issues. These displays are cheap garbage that are guaranteed to go bad, but since it has an Apple logo you will worship it.

well.....

Of course lots of folks want to see the latest intel chip in any updates but my gut says maybe the timing isn't right yet.

Who can speak to the production of these new intel processors? That's the indicator on a wider, broader release even if Apple is on the short list as they have been lately with Intel.

Bottom line, you may be seeing some update without the flashy new processor. Apple has a lot on its plate right now and would imagine the tablet will be the shiny new toy to get all the attention.

Just a guess overall. Your mileage may vary.

When I saw the intel integrated graphics on the advertisement my heart dropped, at least this gives me a shred of hope that this terrible graphics card wont be part of the macbook pro that i've waited so long to get updated.

Here we see the actual Intel spokesperson in action.

Wouldn't this have a detrimental effect on sales of their current MacBooks?

"I'll wait until the new ones are coming, I saw an ad saying there were no models due...."
